Careers with Explicit Mathematics Program (EMP)
Mathematics Resource Developer, F – 6
Applications close 10pm, Sunday October 5th, 2025 AEDT
Given the deliberately small size of the EMP team, this role has the ability to further morph and grow based upon the skills and desires of the successful candidate. This may include other facets such as developing partnerships, working directly with schools, running PD, greater oversight, etc.
This is a unique opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with some of Australia’s best known and respected mathematics educators including David Morkunas, Toni Hatten-Roberts, and Ollie Lovell. This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The EMP is looking for someone with:
- Experience delivering mathematics instruction in a range of styles, ideally including delivery of scripted mathematics programs
- A deep understanding of mathematics and mathematics teaching, ideally extending from the beginning of school well into high school and even beyond
- A refined ability to atomise knowledge and sequence the instruction of these atomised skills and knowledge over time
- Extremely high attention to detail and conscientiousness
- Ability and desire to take on high quality feedback, and also to provide it
- Fluency with Microsoft Powerpoint is a must, fluency coding in LaTex is highly desirable (comment on your coding ability within LaTex and other coding languages within your cover letter)
- You will include the code word ‘emp4me’ at the start of your cover letter to demonstrate that you carefully read each of these criteria
- A drive to make a massive contribution to the mathematics learning of countless students in Australia and beyond
- Fluency reading and interpreting curriculum documents, ideally across different states and territories
- You will also be obsessed with education. You are the kind of person who goes to education conferences on weekends, reads education books and creates teaching resources in your free time, and you will see education as one of your main, if not your main, hobby as well as your profession. We live and breathe this stuff, you will too. (but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re well known, don’t worry, notoriety/profile is in no way a criteria for this hire and we encourage any and all to apply. We are very open to hiring a passionate and skilled classroom teacher, not even necessarily with leadership experience).
- Casual for remainder of 2025 with ability to go full-time in 2026. (must be able to dedicate 6-8 hours per week for the remainder of 2025 during term time, with more time over the Australian summer holidays)
- You will be reporting directly to EMP Co-founder and CEO Ollie Lovell and working closely alongside Director of Lesson Development & Lead Author David Morkunas and Co-Founder and Chief Academic Officer Toni-Hatten Roberts in your resource development role
- This is a remote role, you will be working from home with opportunities to collaborate in-person from time to time. Applicants may apply from any Australian State or Territory, or countries with at least 6 hours of overlap of standard work hours. Most EMP team members are based in Victoria.
- Wage and benefits by negotiation
- Submit resume, cover letter, and work sample by 10pm, Sunday October 5th, 2025 AEDT (all submission details below)
- Initial phone interviews will take place the following week
- A sub-set of applicants will be invited to complete more in-depth trial task/s following this to inform final decisions. This trial period may include you completing actual (paid) work for the EMP alongside other candidates.
- All files must be zipped into a single zip file and submitted to this dropbox by the time and date specified above.
- Naming conventions for files as follows:
- Zipped file: firstname_lastname_application_files
- Cover letter: firstname_lastname_1_cover_letter
- Resume: firstname_lastname_2_resume
- Sample tasks: firstname_lastname_3_sample tasks
- Zipped file: firstname_lastname_application_files
- A description of what each file should contain:
- Cover letter: A letter of maximum 2 pages that covers your desire and fit for this role
- Resume: Resume highlighting relevant experience
- Sample tasks: A high quality example lesson (full lesson or lesson portion) or teaching resource that you have created to demonstrate your fit for writing MSSP lessons for the Explicit Mathematics Program in addition to high quality DRQTs for all strands. This may be a lesson or resource that you have created previously or you may choose to make one for the purposes of demonstrating your capacity to write for the EMP. The more clearly you demonstrate your ability to write lessons and reviews specifically to the EMP format, the easier it will be for the EMP to assess your fit. Feel free to add annotations to these resource samples to highlight key design/pedagogical decisions you’ve made and specifically highlight them to the EMP team. You may submit multiple samples.
